When working on several projects at once, we all have dozens of tabs open spread across various windows in Google Chrome. Some of them are duplicates, some of them are there for days - it’s a mess and working effectively with this setup is near impossible.

There are two solutions to solve this mess:

  1. Build powerful productivity habits and do everything manually (Yes, that’s a lot of work)

  2. Instals these three Chrome extensions

They are built by separate companies but they work beautifully together.

Merge Windows

Sometimes the new links not only open in new tab, they open in a completely new Google Chrome window. Soon we end up with dozens of tabs and it’s difficult to find anything and be really productive.

That’s where TabSorter can help. Click one button and it puts all tabs from all the windows into one window.

One third of the „spring cleaning done“

But how to actually make sense of all those tiny tabs?

Vertical Tabs in Side Panel

Vertical Tabs - Google Chrome Extension

If you have a lot of tabs open, it’s impossible to see what they really are. Even on giant 27“ 4K screens, we end up seeing only the website icon and a few letters. Wouldn’t it be nice to see all our views in a vertical, easy-to-read, view?

It would and that’s exactly what VerticalTabs Extension is doing.

Not much more to say about it really. Click a button and see all your tabs open in a nice right hand sidebar. You can then sort the tabs manually, close them, put them to group and even search for them.

Simple Tab Sorter

I saved the best for the last. I don’t know about you but even though I visit a lot of website, apps, etc. while working, they often tend to be from the same category or fall under the sam app:

  • Several Google Drive Tabs

  • Internal Project Management apps

  • MS 365 apps such as Word, Excel, Teams etc.

TabSorter simply sorts your tabs alphabetically for you. Nothing more, nothing else. It’s still a big help though, because you can quickly make sense of all the tabs and then easily close the areas that you are no longer working with at the moment.

Is that it?

What about Chrome Profiles, what about Tab Groups? Yes, you’re right. These another powerful techniques to master tab management (a.k.a. modern-day productivity).

We will explore these along with the best practices in the next article (coming soon!)
